Das Hörbuch lohnt sich, weil Gardner eine interessante Zeit in der Berichterstattung über die islamische Welt abdeckt. Er gibt offen zu, dass er nicht gerade ein Superschüler oder Student war, aber er schafft es zur BBC und dort wird er zum Kriegsreporter und Sicherheitsreporter. Seinen Höhepunkt erlebt er, als er in Saudi Arabien grundlos von Terroristen niedergeschoßen wird. Nur mit viel Glück verarbeitet er die körperlichen und seelischen Folgen dieses Vorfalls.
Inspirational Memoir!Frank Gardner enjoyed a somewhat privileged beginning in life. He enjoyed many comforts and access to a good education and experiences.Gardner's university years displayed a carefree attitude, but also the initial passion for the Middle East and the many cultures living side by side.However, it was his adversity that remains today an inspiration to me. From comfortable beginnings he found tenacity and courage when faced with huge physical and mental challenges. His commitment to living life to the fullest, everyday at a time, is a lesson for us all.
Exactly what I needed to read and perhaps one of the best travelling and adventure writers there is. I love how he immersed himself in the culture and is able to give a true understanding of the culture and landscape politically. Worth reading
I have long enjoyed Frank Gardner's TV reporting on the Middle East. It was great to read of his background.before TV and how he came to love the Middle East. What a shame that someone with such a love of the place and its people should be shot there.His writing style is 'right up my street' and so every page was a pleasure.
Well written, easy to read. Full of anecdotes, history, background, details…I appreciated learning and understanding while I was reading. Inspiring story.
